We've had a mild autumn, but I was still impressed by the resilience of these roses. Also, beautiful little green beetle.

Also, a meme from [info]scylladakylla:

• Leave me a comment with the name of your favorite song.
• I'll respond by asking you five questions so I can get to know you better.
• Update your journal with the answers to the questions.
• Include this explanation in the post and offer to ask other people questions.

1. If you could only wear one scent for the rest of your life, which would you choose?
I'd say Selkie, for the olfactory love + sentimental (...pun narrowly averted) value, but on the basis of sheer wearability, it'd have to be Black Opal. (also, [info]scylladakylla, I demand your answer, too.)

2. If you were to be an animal (real, fictional, extinct), which would you be and why?
When I was about 8 years old, I had this complicated and extended fantasy about being a silver cheetah. lol. Ummm... I don't know, I must say I'm pretty fond of being a human, but I must also say that bacteria are so freaking cool that I wouldn't mind being one, assuming I could somehow maintain enough consciousness to appreciate my awesomeness. If we're going to go for fictional, being a cryptid and scaring the crap out of people seems like it would be fun. Is Mothman an eligible target for reincarnation?

3. If you suddenly got really rich, what's the first thing you would do?
Invest it? boring answer, next.

4. I've already used this one, but it's a fun question, so: If you could slap anyone in the face really hard with no consequences, who would it be?
Uhhhh. At the moment, either my roommates' more reprehensible exes, or people who don't flush the toilet.

5. A nuclear holocaust kills every human in the world except you and a male. WHO WOULD YOU REPOPULATE THE EARTH WITH.
SOMEONE WITH NO DELETERIOUS ALLELES. Or an obstetrician?

Since [info]fairnymph and I were talking about it, and I realized recently that I didn't have a list at all...

Total BPAL tested: 152
Total BPAL owned: 24* (all imps)
Total scents from other etailers tested: 48
Total scents from other etailers owned: 2 (but I also own and have used up a bunch of Blooddrop in the form of bath & body products)
Total scents tried overall: 200

*That translates to an 83.2% attrition rate, as of 5/3/09. XD

I just have scary hobbies. What can I say.

Swap/Sale List
See wishlist here (posted as Emera - make sure you're looking at the right one!). At the moment I'd prefer to sell, but I am willing to swap if you have any Black Opal. Transactions here are screened once completed, for the sake of space.

I can take all flavors of Paypal. Shipping is $2 for imp-only orders, regardless of destination; for every bottle ordered, add on $.50. I always try to include freebies of one kind or another. No minimum order size. All scents tested lightly once or twice unless otherwise noted. See my: Forum feedback / LJ feedback.

IMPS

LE - $3.50
Gelt

GC - $2.50
La Bella Donna Della Mia Mente

Other etailers - $2 for all 1/32 oz samples listed below, unless otherwise noted. I've linked to reviews where available.

Blooddrop Droplettes
Creepy Crawlies - Pumpkin pie with a hazelnut crust and a dash of rum!
La Tasseographie - White porcelain, a blend of three different tea leaves and accompaniments. (rich, mysterious, smoky tea with candied lemon peel)

5 mL - $10
Kelpie - Soft, milky black tea darkened with dry cocoa and aged patchouli.
Merci 17 - (no notes, I smelled well-blended jasmine and cool, fresh melon, maybe with a touch of dry, lightly spicy wood. Very summery-woodsy and gentle, close to the skin.)
There, Castle - weird family happenings & uninvited townsfolk with pitchforks. (no notes, I smell sugared lemon over dark, smooth molasses)

Mythos Mixtures
5 mL, tested several times - $8
Encantado - A playful vanilla and water scent with a devious bite of mint.

Possets
Ultramarine Blue - Blue musk makes it's first appearance at Possets, of course the finest lavender has to hold up its end of the blend, with Black Vanilla (yes!), and flowers and citrus.

I AM SO OLD NOW OH MY GOSH. jus' kidding. But a whole two decades? rly now? Disturbing.

It was not a particularly earth-shattering birthday, but a mellow one. Various people serenaded me loudly and discordantly at dinner, enough to make the whole dining hall fall silent, and afterwards Emily and I shared a fruit tart on the windowseat and took stupid photos of each other.

I vaguely considered buying myself something by way of birthday present, but couldn't think of anything spectacular enough to top the already-here Wintermute, so. XD But I did receive the package from my last BPAL swap, and bathed (somewhat) in the glory that was Sugar Moon. Wish I had gotten more burnt sugar from it, but the strawberry was perfect. yum yum yum.

This past week, I also had the singular experience and privilege of meeting a friend from the Interwebs! it was vaguely magical, and yet I'm sure that karmic consequences lie ahead in the coming weeks, to make me atone for having broken the Internet-reality barrier. In the meantime, I will revel in the knowledge that people really DO exist behind the icons and smileys!

There are a bunch of Y!J links waiting in the wings, but I suppose I'll save 'em for a separate BJD entry sometime later.

Now if only somebody would do my homework for me... THAT would be an excellent present.

A while ago [info]stereophilic posted photos of her and [info]silencestation's BPAL stash... I thought it would be fun to reciprocate, especially since I'm inordinately proud of the way I store mine. XD;; Ready?

Presenting the best of nerdiness and girliness at once... )

As a warning, I'm on autumn break right now, so there will probably be a lot of photospam and general spam on this journal over the coming days. :P

[info]ohniki enters the world of BPAL, those devilishly addictive and lovably pretentious little perfume blends:

"Sweet! But not like a sweet smell. Sweet as in awesome."

"Boyish. Why hello there! No, not you, my finger." (she kept applying on her fingers. always a good idea.)

"It smells like pine. Pine-SOL!!! ... Sticky. ... It smells like sap is beating up all over my skin."

"This smells like cleaning product. Oh god, there is pepper in the back of my nose."

[on Wolf Moon's cap] "This one is a bitch to get off. Haha. Get it? Wolf Moon. It's a bitch to get off. - It definitely doesn't smell like a furry convention. Not that I've ever been to one. - It's starting to smell a little like gum being chewed by a socialite."

"This smells like a store where you would buy hemp products. I'm not kidding, there are Grateful Dead shirts in the front and incense in the back. OH my god it is burning! (5 min. later) What? What happened to my boyish smell? It is mixing with the hemp."

"It smells like a Beanie Baby stuffing candy shop. It smells like a rejected tin of candy in the corner of the candy shop. I'm just saying the tin is rejected and this happens to give off its sorrow or something like that."

"Oh. You know what it is? We're back near the Grateful Dead shirts. Except now there's an Ozzy Osbourne shirt in the corner."

"IT SMELLS LIKE A MICHAEL'S. [craft store] Like right next to the fake flower aisle."

"Is this soap or is this something awesome brewin' on my finger?"

"Something interesting is emerging. It's like a mysterious, sexy man has entered the room. - It's gone! I guess it saw me and left."
